Cialdini's third principle. When unsure, look at what similar others are doing and copy. Powerful default behavior — usually adaptive, occasionally catastrophic (bystander effect, financial bubbles). In product: testimonials, usage stats, 'most popular' labels. In engineering: 'every other team uses Postgres' is more persuasive than benchmarks.
